Basic skills for Fair Isle knitting
Sundays, 8:30 – 9:30 am Pacific Time
March 3,10,17, and 24, 2024
Registration $125 USD
You will learn basic Fair Isle color patterning techniques to create a small drawstring pouch, including 2-color ribbing; drafting basic and relatively simple designs; carrying the ‘float’ successfully, and some basic designs for the crown.
At the end of the class, you will have the skills to design and knit a first Fair Isle hat.
Pre-requisites:
You must be very comfortable knitting, ribbing, and decreasing in the round on double pointed needles (dpns).
Supplies
4 or 5 double pointed needles, size 2.5 or 3mm
Approx 2 ozs (40-50g) of fingering weight yarn in several colors
Note - if you don’t have fingering weight yarn and thin needles available, use sport, dk, or worsted weight yarn and needles in a gauge that will give a fairly closely knit fabric.
Tapestry needle for tucking in ends
You may find graph paper and colored pencils helpful.
